Our Garden Calendar

Track all the garden things, plus Sustainability Matters events and our favorite holidays.

Our garden calendar is calibrated for Sustainability Matters’ home growing area, Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, zone 6b. Adjust for your own growing zone. Also adjust for actual weather each year: for example, if it’s an unusually cold spring, you may need to plant later than normal.

The calendar is for gardeners like us, seeking to maximize success with a minimum of effort (though, pro tip: gardens are never self-maintaining!). Experts with plenty of time and energy - and the right tools - can start tomatoes in January, or succession plant lettuce all summer. We love their mad skills, but don’t seek to emulate them.

Gardening is both an art and a science, and, most of all, a never-ending experiment. Enjoy the journey.
