Together, we’re “Awesome”

Thanks to everyone who voted for Sustainability Matters’ ''Project for Awesome'' (P4A) video, we won $30,600! In a field of heavy hitters like UNICEF and World Central Kitchen, SM was the only non-national organization to win P4A, the charitable challenge created by “VlogBrothers” Hank and John Green.

We’re tremendously grateful to those who made this happen, especially our grant lead Kara Balcerzak, who alerted us to the contest in the first place (thinking it suchhhh a long shot!), and our amazingly talented video team of Elise Trissel and Sezzy Guganovic. Their brilliance not only helped us win P4A, but led to SM’s video being chosen as featured submission during the P4A marathon’s “prime time” slot (8 pm ET on the first night)!

Meanwhile, our SM family pulled off a herculean get-out-the-vote effort. A college student in California rallied everyone in her computer lab to pitch in. An entire factory joined the cause. A whole Garden Club voted. And a board member’s teenage son watched most of the competition videos before pronouncing ours the best (and telling all his friends)! The P4A campaign showed it really does take a village…or a planet.
