Seed Gathering

  • Spring House Farms Alonzaville, VA (map)
Dried out Monarda seed heads

Join us and our hosts Ali & Jeff Carithers (stars of our Native Virginia Now video series) for a Seed Gathering in their amazing acres of wildflower meadows. Learn to identify, collect, and save native perennial seeds…and of course, take some home for your own collection!

We’ll also have an informal plant/seed swap (including veggie seeds, tree seedlings, etc; not just native perennials) at the event. If you have anything you’d like to share, please bring it, clearly labeled.

Attendance at the Seed Gathering is limited to Sustainability Matters members and volunteers (join us as a member, if you haven’t already). Registration is required, as Ali’s making snacks! Volunteers and members will receive the registration link via email.

Get a preview of the seedheads in Jeff & Ali’s meadows in Episode 2 of Native Virginia Now (also learn - along with Jeff - what “brown notes” are!).
