EcologiGALs is here!

In partnership with Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS), we’re thrilled to launch our EcologiGALs program! For the next 8 weeks, our EcologiLEADERs will be mentoring a cohort of 60 high school and middle school girls for a summer of environmental fun. During the first week, we spent some time at the landfill doing a scavenger hunt and getting to know the iNaturalist app. Indoor activities included lessons on the components of a landfill and a game about how long things take to decompose. In future weeks, we’ll cover more sustainability topics, and our ‘Gals will hear from a panel of waste management professionals.

Say hello to our EcologiLEADERs,
Emily and Tania!

Emily is a current George Mason senior who is majoring in Environmental Studies and Sustainability, with a concentration in conservation. On top of her love for all things environment, she
is also completing a minor in American Sign Language after being inspired by a freshman-year introduction class to the language. Emily is excited to get down and dirty at the landfill this summer and show other girls just how exciting environmental science
can be.

Tania joins our team after being involved with Making Trash Bloom as an undergrad at George Mason, where she studied biology and conservation studies. Tania is pursuing a career
in outdoor education. She has a strong passion for teaching the next generation and her background as a first-generation American has shaped her perspective on the need for accessible education that creates equity.
